The 9th-generation Hilux officially launched in India, 28th July 2026, eight months after its debut in Bangkok, Thailand, in November 2025. Official pricing is likely to be announced at the launch event today and industry estimates have pegged the price range at around ₹32–40 lakh (ex-showroom).
What’s New on the Gen-9?
The most significant new feature is the Neo Drive 48V mild hybrid system. A mild hybrid is a small battery pack that helps the main engine, but doesn’t run the car itself. It helps the engine during acceleration. This 48V battery is located under the rear seats on the Hilux and provides an additional 12kW of power to the 2.8-litre diesel engine.
This system is confirmed to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 5% and achieve a fuel economy of approximately 9.7–10.0 l/100 km (WLTP) which is equivalent to approximately 28–29 mpg or approximately 10–10.3 kmpl. India-specific mileage numbers have not been released by Toyota and there are no real-world test data available at the time of writing.
The other big talking point is the cabin. Toyota has updated the interior, inspired by the Land Cruiser family with a bigger touchscreen, a new instrument panel, and a significant improvement in the quality of materials used over the previous generation.
Is the Mild Hybrid a value add?
The price will be the deciding factor in the question that will be asked by the buyer.

That makes the base variant at least ₹3–4 lakh more expensive than the old base variant.
Does the Mild Hybrid Actually Add Value?
The Isuzu V-Cross is priced at ₹25.50 lakh to ₹30.28 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available without any hybrid system. The V-Cross is a tried and tested pick-up that has a dedicated fan base among commercial and lifestyle buyers.
What does the Neo Drive system really offer you over a non-hybrid competitor? The 5% CO2 reduction and 12kW assist power are actual figures, but not huge. If the buyer is mostly using this truck for towing, off-road, or farm work then that small efficiency gain is not enough to justify a ₹5–10 lakh premium. The equation is different for a lifestyle buyer who appreciates the Land Cruiser-inspired interior and the badge.
The truth is that the 48V system, as specified worldwide, is more relevant on paper than in practice. It is not a replacement for the engine and the fuel economy of about 9.8 kmpl is not the best in the segment. The technology is genuine, but those who are hoping for a big increase in mileage may be disappointed.
The Gen-9 does have a much improved cabin, a new and fresh design, and Toyota’s service network which are all real value in this segment. The final price of that package will be decided by the confirmed price that Toyota sets today whether it is ₹32 lakh or ₹40 lakh.
