Thar Facelift Spied

The Mahindra Thar facelift is back for another test drive. This time, it’s the alloy wheels that are the focus. New spy shots show a Roxx-inspired wheel design giving new fuel to the speculation that the facelift might be available on August 14, 2026.

Why August 14 Makes Sense

Mahindra has a history of big launches of the Thar on Independence Day. Both the original Thar in 2020 and the Thar Roxx in 2024 were launched on August 15 as part of the brand’s Freedom Drive events. With that in mind, a launch one day earlier on August 14, 2026 would be in line with the tradition, but Mahindra has not yet announced an official date.

Design Borrows Heavily From Thar Roxx

Spy shots indicate a front profile featuring circular headlamps flush with the grille instead of the recessed headlamps on the current Thar. These will be accompanied by C-shaped LED DRLs, a feature that was also used on the Thar Roxx. The rear of the car will also be getting the Roxx-style taillamp detailing making the facelifted Thar look more modern and cohesive with its larger sibling.

Engines Likely to Remain Unchanged

Mechanically, the facelift is expected to remain unchanged with the same three engines that are currently available: 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel. The larger engines will retain the 6-speed manual, and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmissions, and the 4×4 transfer case will remain an option.

Features Buyers Can Expect

The larger modifications are anticipated within the cabin. The report also mentions the inclusion of Level 2 ADAS, as found in the Thar Roxx, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror, and push-button start. The additions would help resolve one of the most frequent grievances against the current Thar which has been lagging behind its rivals in terms of features, despite its reputation as a good off-road vehicle.

The wait for an official announcement from Mahindra seems to be nearing its end with test mules still being spotted just days apart.
