The Nexon Camo Edition is priced at Rs 9.99 lakh ex-showroom. It is no coincidence that Tata Motors has launched it at this price. The edition marks 9 years of the Nexon in India and more than 11 lakh units sold making it one of the country’s most consistent compact SUV sellers. However, the actual news here is not the badge on the fender, but a feature that is hidden in the equipment list that most buyers in this segment won’t get for free unless they pay extra for an aftermarket fit.
A Dashcam You Don’t Have to Install Yourself
The SUV’s four surround-view cameras power the Nexon Camo Edition’s built-in dashcam. It logs continuously while driving and automatically saves footage when it detects an impact which is helpful for insurance claims or disputes after an accident. The new 12.3-inch touchscreen allows for viewing footage directly or pulling footage onto a smartphone. This eliminates the need to have wires running across the windshield for buyers who have always wanted a dashcam, but didn’t want the wires.
What Else Is New
The Camo Edition is not actually camouflaged as the name suggests. Rather, it receives two new paint colors: Munnar Mist(a grey-green hue that changes with light), and Coorg Cloud(a more subdued grey-silver). The only other visual clues are camo badges on the front fenders and camo perforation on the headrests.
The larger modifications are in the car’s interior. Along with the new touchscreen, the instrument cluster grows to 10.25 inches. In addition, depending on the variant selected, the buyer can also enjoy a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a JBL nine-speaker audio system, wireless charging and ADAS with seven functions. Safety kit has six airbags, ESP and 5-star rating by both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP.
Engines and Variants Remain Familiar
The mechanical properties remain unchanged for this NEXON edition. The buyers can still opt for 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, 1.5-litre diesel, and 1.2-litre turbo-CNG engine with manual, AMT, or dual-clutch automatic transmission as per the variant. The Camo Edition is available in five trims, from Creative to Fearless+ A PS, and the base Creative trim has the greatest selection of powertrains.
The built-in dashcam is enough to make the Nexon Camo Edition worth a second look for safety-conscious buyers, even though it’s not reinventing anything mechanically for a car that’s just about a decade old on Indian roads.
