Kia India has unveiled a new teaser campaign which strongly suggests the imminent launch of the Sorento Hybrid, the brand’s first hybrid SUV for the Indian market and its global flagship premium SUV nameplate.
The Teaser Campaign
The teaser image alludes to Sorrento, Italy, and invites viewers to guess the landmark with the help of an AI assistant or Google Lens, a marketing ploy Kia has employed in the past to create anticipation for a launch. Kia has not announced an exact launch date, but industry reports suggest it will be in August 2026 with customer deliveries starting in the end of September or beginning of October.
Sorento’s Global Track Record
The Sorento has been one of Kia’s most popular models worldwide, having sold over 4.8 million units in 132 countries over four generations since its debut in 2002. It was among Kia’s top three global sellers in 2024 and 2025, and has garnered international accolades such as a 5-star NHTSA safety rating, and an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award which Kia will likely be able to leverage in its India marketing.
What to Expect From the India-Spec Model
The India-spec Sorento Hybrid has yet to be officially announced, but the international, Australian-spec version provides a good reference point which is powered by a hybrid powertrain based on a turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor. A test mule has already been seen on Indian roads with the overall proportions and silhouette of the international model, but with extensive camouflage.
Part of a Bigger Kia Strategy
The Sorento’s launch is part of Kia’s strategy to beef up its premium SUV portfolio in India with proven models from the rest of the world instead of creating India-specific models. The announcement follows Kia’s recent introduction of the Syros EV, the brand’s first electric SUV for India, and the reports that Kia is also looking at local production of the Sorento Hybrid which will be the first hybrid SUV from the brand in India.
The teaser also comes after an earlier campaign from Kia which indicated that it was preparing two separate launches for the Indian market: one for its battery electric vehicle (BEV) and another for its hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). This follows Kia India’s price increase of up to 2% for its entire range from July 1, 2026 which included the Sonet, Syros, Seltos, Carens Clavis, Carnival, EV6, and EV9, citing the increase in input costs and operational expenses.
What’s Still Unconfirmed
The pricing, variants, and exact launch date for the Sorento Hybrid are yet to be confirmed. Kia’s teaser campaign indicates that the formal reveal is not far off. However, if the India-spec version follows the pattern of Kia’s recent launches, it is likely that the company will release teaser images, an unofficial booking window at select dealers, and a formal price announcement closer to the actual delivery date in late September or early October.
