MG Astor Facelift

The facelifted Astor is globally unveiled at GIIAS 2026, the Indonesia Motor Show. And for MG India, this update couldn’t have come at a better time. The Astor facelift is an opportunity for the brand to reclaim its glory days.

Why the Astor Needs This Update

The Astor was a standout when it was introduced in India in 2021. It was one of the first cars in its price range to offer an AI voice assistant and Level 2 ADAS driver assistance features. If you were a buyer looking for new age technology in the compact SUV market, you had little choice.

Since then, the car has barely changed. The compact SUV market has been on the fast track in India with new models and technology arriving on the scene year after year. The Astor, meanwhile, has remained unchanged from its launch with the same look and features. That’s the space that the Astor facelift must fill.

What the Facelift Is Expected to Bring

The India-spec Astor facelift is likely to receive a facelifted front grille, new LED lighting, and a bigger dual-screen infotainment system based on the global unveiling. The cabin should also be updated with new materials and finishes. Engine options are expected to remain the same, with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol both likely to be available. MG has not yet confirmed final engine options.

According to industry estimates, the facelift might hit the Indian market sometime in November 2026 with prices likely to range from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 18 lakh ex-showroom. These are all preliminary and not official as yet, so buyers should consider these as preliminary estimates until confirmed by MG.

Why This Matters for MG in India

A new Astor provides MG with an incentive to bring existing Astor buyers back to the showroom and draw in new buyers who avoided the car because of its dated styling. It’s a good sign that a brand that has been synonymous with being tech-first in India, has come up with a proper update to its original tech showcase car. The Astor face-lift could be a facelift for more than one model, if MG is correct about the price and features. It might make Indian customers think of the reason it was so special in the first place.
